A native of Washington, D.C., Michael is the award winning writer of such films as TALK TO ME (Focus Features), HALLELUJAH (American Playhouse), and SHE HATE ME (Sony Picture Classics) for Director Spike Lee. For his latest work he is the Writer/Creator of the upcoming new TV Series, TROUBLE MAN! Residing in Manhattan’s culture rich Hell’s Kitchen, Michael has carved out a successful career in the entertainment industry as a star of stage, film and television. Michael most recently starred in the Broadway production of WICKED as the lovable Dr. Dillamond. Before that he starred as Lance Corporal Dawson in the original Broadway production of Aaron Sorkin's A FEW GOOD MEN, as Marius in the Anne Rice vampire romance, LESTAT, and as Troy Maxson in one of the most critically acclaimed productions ever of August Wilson’s FENCES. Michael has made numerous film and television appearance including ONE FINE DAY, SHE HATE ME, THE AFFAIR, LAW & ORDER, TYLER PERRY’S HOUSE OF PAYNE, THE AMERICANS, as well as a six year co-star as Lamar Griffin on CBS-TV’s AS THE WORLD TURNS. Michael is a Eugene O’Neill Playwright’s selectee, the winner of the coveted Kennedy Center Award for New American Plays, a prestigious Sundance Screenwriter’s Lab Selectee for his acclaimed jazz fable, PORK PIE, and a winner of NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Writing In A Motion Picture for his feature film release, TALK TO ME. Also an accomplished author, Michael’s critically acclaimed book, They Must Not Know Who I Think I Am; Lessons in Defiant Resilience, is filled with insightful personal anecdotes from his long career in entertainment. They Must Not Know Who I Think I Am offers motivation for discovering, applying and reaping the rewards of a defiantly resilient approach. Michael worked on the story development for Liquid's original musical, MARIAN.
